When you set goals for yourself and your business, are you thinking too small?

It’s easy to set goals that you know you can achieve… but if you don’t push yourself to grow and learn, how will you ever get better?

Without stretching yourself, without testing the limits of what you think you’re capable of, you’ll never be able to reach your full potential.

If you’re struggling with setting big goals for yourself or don’t know how, watch the video below.

Let’s talk about 5 things you can do to start thinking big!

”Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
“Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?”
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world…”

I think Marianne Williamson really got it right when she wrote this.

Those words are so powerful, and that’s exactly what many of us are doing when we don’t think big enough – We are not serving the world, and we are not serving ourselves.

Thinking big is how you create impact. Thinking big is how you grow both in business and in life. Thinking big is how you reach the success you’ve been dreaming of…

So here are some of the best ways I’ve learned to start thinking big:

Visualize the possibilities.

Use your imagination! Start thinking about how you can be bigger, do bigger, and have bigger. You need to believe it before you see it.

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” – Napoleon Hill.

You have to believe in something before you can achieve it. So what are you thinking about? What is your mind dwelling on during the day? Are you focusing on success, or failure?

Do your best to imagine what’s possible for you. Focus on what you’re capable of, not what you’re afraid of.

Expand your knowledge by reading.

Almost all successful entrepreneurs are readers, but that doesn’t mean you have to read hundreds of pages a day. Start by setting goals to read 10-15 minutes a day, or even just a number of pages.

You’ll be amazed at how many books you can read, and what kind of impact it’ll have on your life, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Over time you’ll learn new concepts, new ideas, expand your imagination and gain confidence from those things.

Enlarge your dreams by networking with successful people.

The people closest to you can influence your success in more ways than you realize. Each person has unique perspectives, experiences and personalities that can influence your decisions over time.

The goal isn’t for you to compare yourself to them, but to realize what your life could look like. Observe the people around you and how they live, figure out what you like and dislike, what you want and what you would enjoy. The clearer you can picture your ideal future, the easier it’ll be to make it happen.

10x your thinking.

Stretch your goals! You don’t want to set goals that you’re absolutely certain you can achieve. It won’t help you grow or improve. Set goals that give you butterflies – that make you wonder if it’s really possible.

If you set goals high enough, goals that will stretch what you’re capable of, even if you fail, it’ll be at a level that others dream of reaching.

Here’s what I mean by that:

I knew a young man who set a goal to beat the record number of sales in the company. He had goals, a plan of action, and everything that he needed to execute it. Did he beat the record? No, but he failed with so many sales that most of us would’ve been thrilled to get as many as he did.

Focus on setting goals that make you a little uncomfortable. Goals that push you to be better and stretch what you think you’re capable of.

Think long term.

So many people want to have quick results and fast success… but success is built one brick at a time.

As Bill Gates said, “Most people overestimate what they can do in a year, and underestimate what they can do in 10.”

It’s the little successes along the way that lead to big results. It’s the foundation that will allow you to grow.

Think bigger, go after bigger, and you’ll achieve bigger.
