Do you remember having dreams as a child?
You thought about what life would be like when you grew up, what you wanted to do and places you wanted to go. You dreamed about anything your imagination could think up… the sky was the limit.
That was the fun of childhood, wasn’t it?
Believe it or not, that process of dreaming is just as important as an adult, as it was when you were a child.
So often as we grow, our parents and teachers tell us to be realistic; to get our heads out of the clouds and put our feet on the ground. They tell us we probably won’t achieve our biggest dreams, and then as adults, we wonder why we aren’t achieving our goals.
Dreaming is a very important part of the goal-setting process, so give yourself permission to go deep into your imagination. That’s when you’ll start finding what you need to push yourself to accomplish what you want most in life.
As you start coming up with things you want to do, write them down; keep a journal or even a master dream list. You could create a dream board full of images, words, and ideas that reflect who you are and what you want in life. You can even listen to other people’s dreams. If there’s something they want to do that sounds interesting, write it down. Take it as a dream for yourself too.
The big question is, once you have those dreams, what do you do with them?
The most important step in capturing a dream and making it a reality is to make sure it fits with your priorities. Looking at what you want to do now and in the future is a huge part of the goal-setting process.
What’s important to you? What are your values? What do you need to do today, and what needs to wait until tomorrow?
In the coming weeks, we’ll talk about how to use your values to prioritize your dreams. Until then, start dreaming and imagine what it’ll be like when those dreams come true.
All the best,
