I thought I had my life planned out. I knew the exact job I wanted to have, how much money I wanted to make, how many hours I wanted to work, everything.

I had the perfect plan for my future, and I truly thought it would make me happy. It wasn’t until I got offered the job I’d been dreaming of that I realized I couldn’t take it.

When deciding how I wanted my life to go, there was one important factor I hadn’t taken into consideration, and it changed everything.

Watch this week’s video to learn why that one factor is so important, and how it changed the trajectory of my life and business forever.

I was the type of person who used to just jump into something with both feet.

I started in the film business with no background, no skills, and my only plan was to start working and learning as I went.

Fortunately, I was a quick learner.

However, what I’ve realized is that when we jump into something new without truly thinking about how it will affect our lives, we may end up going down a path that isn’t right for us.

Here’s what I mean by that:

Years ago, I had a goal to get a certain job. It was the only job that I truly wanted in the little town that I lived in, and it was the first step in creating the life I’d dreamed of.

But once I got offered the job, I realized how much I’d have to give up in order to make it work.

I looked at my life, and I started to understand what was most important to me. If I had known those things ahead of time and realized everything that would have to change in my life in order to make that job work for me, I never would’ve even considered it.

The most important thing you can do before planning your future is to look at where you are right now. Who are you as a person? What’s most important in your life?

If you don’t consider how your plans will affect your future, what happens if you’re in the middle of building a business, and you realize that it’s not right for you? You’ve put so much time and effort into starting something big, and then realize that it’s not what you truly want.

Those types of situations are why it’s so important to put a plan together, look at everything involved, everything you’ll have to accomplish, and then ask yourself if it’s still what you truly want.

If you’re willing to do what it takes, then go after it! But if it’s not right for you, give yourself permission to say no.

If I had to do it all over again, I would’ve made sure that I planned everything out from the beginning. I wouldn’t have wasted time on things that I later learned weren’t right for me, and I would’ve started working towards the life I truly wanted a lot sooner than I did.

And that’s exactly what I want for you, to live a life you truly love.
