“Alone, we can do so little. Together, we can do so much.” – Helen Keller.

That’s a quote that really rang true for me last weekend.

In this world, we are encouraged to strike out on our own, but having a group of people working together with similar goals and desires is a powerful way to do things. And for us individually, it can be a leverage point so that not everything rests on our shoulders.

Last weekend, I was at a conference that had grown from thousands of people to tens of thousands. There were people in that room that I’ve known for 25 years, and we feel connected because of our common experience and desire to accomplish the same things.

There were also tens of thousands of people whom I had never met. Yet, because we were on the same path – after the same things – we felt connected.

Those people gave me a sense of community, purpose, and most importantly made me feel like I am not alone, even when sitting in my office a few countries away from them.

I may be in business by myself, but I am not alone.

I want you to really think about that if you’re contemplating doing something different than a job. As you step out and create something for yourself, think about the reasons and motivation you have for doing that.

Think about who you are as an individual, and what’s important to you.

I encourage you to branch out, link arms with people, and make the decision to go out there and do something good for this world; something that’s also good for you.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead

In the next couple of weeks, we’re going to talk more about how to figure out what’s most important to you. That way, when you step out to be an entrepreneur, to go into business for yourself, you can assure yourself of success.

Until next week,
Lorna Rasmussen
